Quantity Surveyor for Capital Projects

Position Location: Lake Charles, LA area
ReCon Engineering and Management Services is seeking a qualified Quantity Surveyor for Capital Projects  for a contract, in-plant opportunity in the Southwest Louisiana area.

Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor for Capital Projects is responsible for tracking the material quantities and cost for the capital projects assigned to him / her. He / she will assist the Project Controls Manager and the Project Manager to maintain accurate and timely status of the material and costs for the capital projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Setting up of the material / equipment control base for the project(s) inclusive of the applicable installation man-hours, cost and unit installation rates (m-hours per material unit)
  • Tracking the progress of material / equipment installation
  • Reconcile the material / equipment quantities, man-hours, cost and unit installation rates between the estimate, the issue for construction design documentation and the actual installed.
  • Evaluating, analyzing and reviewing of contractor reports
  • Work with different entities to confirm, evaluate and compile information.
  • Assisting with the evaluation of change orders
  • Developing and up keeping of dashboards and metrics
  • Compiling of ad hoc reports / presentations
  • Assisting and participating with audits
  • Work with the planning and cost control personnel to verify and update information.


Experience/Education Requirements

  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering or related field / demonstrated experience in quantity surveying
  • 10 years of capital project cost, progress tracking and quantity surveying experience


Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of planning and scheduling principles
  • primavera (P6) expertise (preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of change management principles
  • Access / database knowledge (preferred)
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Extensive Excel and MS Office expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, written, and verbal skills
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel and stakeholders at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, and management as well as external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of relevant project implementation models
  • Well-developed initiation, coordination and integration skills
  • Systematic and procedural
  • Good analytical and judgment skills
  • Dedicated with strong work ethics, enthusiastic and positive
  • Working in a multi-cultural team
  • Conflict management and resolution
  • Good communication, networking & negotiation skills
